The workshop attendees are split into groups of 7 or fewer, each group led by an experienced editor.

Russ Heitz – member American Crime Writers League, Mystery Writers of America
Russ Heitz was born in Pennsylvania and lived for a number of years in the wilderness areas of north-central Pennsylvania, the setting for his two suspense novels. He grew up in the Philadelphia area and has a degree from Temple University. He has been writing most of his life. After moving to Sarasota with his wife, Lee, more than 30 years ago, he has sold dozens of suspense stories as well as articles on a variety of topics. He has also published a nonfiction children’s book about Florida wildlife and worked for more than ten years as a publications specialist for local government. In addition to writing, Russ provides professional copy editing services for local writers.

Diane Marcou
Diane Marcou is a St. Petersburg author and editor. She has written, ghostwritten and/or collaborated on sixteen books, and published fiction, non-fiction and poetry in local, regional and national publications. Her mystery/suspense novel got as far as three chapters; had it ever been finished she’s convinced it would have been a best seller. She empathizes with procrastinators.

Lorin Oberweger (Donald Maass workshop editor and published author) and Brenda Windberg, editor, will team-lead a group.
An award-winning author, Lorin’s articles, short stories and poetry have appeared in nearly one-hundred periodicals, including: StoryQuarterly, Amelia, The Montserrat Review, Isosceles, Gryphon, Day Tonight/Night Today.
Prior to establishing her own company, Lorin spent nearly ten years working as an editor and author in the publishing industry. With the knowledge and experience she gained, Lorin launched Free Expressions in 1996. Currently, she also serves as Editorial Director of the nationally-acclaimed Writers Retreat Workshop as well as Program Director for the Writing Success Series and other seminars.
Brenda Windberg has worked in publishing for more than a dozen years, including as an editor with Lorin.
Currently at work on her third novel, her work is represented by Matt Bialer of The Sanford Greenburger Agency. She has worked for several newspapers as well as doing freelancing and ghostwriting.
